Discover Villa Angelo – a design-led stone retreat with a private pool, 4 en-suite bedrooms, and outdoor dining under the stars. Hidden in a peaceful village near Rethymno, this villa blends Cretan soul with modern comfort. Perfect for families or friends seeking slow, meaningful holidays in nature.
The space
The house unfolds naturally, across two levels and a private courtyard.
You enter through a simple iron gate, into a serene outdoor space where everything is in balance—stone, water, sky. The pool is modest and private, surrounded by soft surfaces and natural textures. To the side, the pergola-covered dining table, the stone-built BBQ, and a ping pong table turn the courtyard into a lived-in summer stage.
Inside, the design respects the building’s past. Nothing is excessive. Everything feels considered.
As you enter through the gate, the villa opens up into a spacious courtyard with the main entrance framed by a beautiful arched doorway.
The open-plan living area combines soft minimalism with earthy comfort. A hand-carved stone arch—part of the original 150-year-old structure—divides the living room from the kitchen, without closing off light or movement. There’s space to cook, to gather, to pause. Materials are natural, muted, real. The stone stays exposed. The lines stay clean.
On the ground floor, two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms open off a short hallway:
- One with a sculpted arch for an entrance, a nod to Eastern craftsmanship, simple and grounding.
- One with direct access to the pool, offering an effortless transition between rest and open air.
Upstairs, reached via an indoor staircase or a separate external stone stair, are two more bedrooms:
- One with a balcony that faces the wild green—the perfect morning spot.
- And one that feels like its own apartment: a fireplace, a stone-framed bathroom mirror, textured surfaces, and a balcony that overlooks both the sky and the courtyard below.
Every room has air, quiet, light, and independence. The layout is ideal for two couples, a family, or a group of friends who value space and privacy.
The bedrooms
Bedroom One – Ground floor
Set quietly to the right of the central hallway, this room greets you through a stone-carved arch, crafted by hand.
It feels like stepping into a space set apart from the rest of the house—not just physically, but emotionally.
The design is grounded in soft minimalism, with natural textures, light tones, and hints of Eastern influence: ceramic lamps, low lighting, and simple forms.
The en-suite bathroom is functional and understated, with materials that echo the honesty of the house. Nothing is flashy. Everything feels right.
Bedroom Two – Ground floor
This room connects directly to the courtyard and the pool. It’s the most sun-kissed space in the house, with light pouring in from the early morning until late afternoon.
The bed sits facing the window, drawing your eyes outward. The palette here is warmer—honey wood tones, white walls, and muted terracotta details.
The ensuite bathroom is accessed through a gentle interior arch, with a glass door that gives it a soft contemporary edge while remaining true to the home's tactile story.
Bedroom Three – Upper floor
Climb the stairs and turn left into a bedroom that feels almost treehouse-like.
This room is bright and intimate, with a private balcony that opens toward the green hills and olive trees that frame the village.
The natural light here is soft and calming. The interior design leans toward simplicity—nothing competes with the view. The en-suite bathroom is modern and discreet.
Bedroom Four – Upper floor (Master suite)
This is the soul of the upper level.
Spacious, earthy, textured, this room feels like it could be lived in year-round.
At its heart is a stone-framed fireplace, giving structure and memory to the space. Across from it, a private balcony hangs above the courtyard, while a second entrance connects directly to the stone staircase outside—making it the most independent room in the house.
The bathroom is perhaps the villa’s most unique: a stone-framed window, preserved from the original home, now holds a mirror that creates a visual trick—making the space feel like a portal between time and reflection. There you will also find a pool table for extra moments of joy!
Outside
The exterior of the house has been treated with the same respect as the interior. The original stone well has been transformed into a design feature, subtly lit at night. There are corners to gather, corners to be alone, and a stillness that asks for nothing except your attention.
It’s the kind of place where mornings stretch longer than usual, and where silence never feels empty.
The location
Kato Poros, Rethymno, Greece
Kato Poros is a quiet, traditional Cretan village, surrounded by olive trees, hidden paths and timeless stories.
What makes this place unique is its connection to nature.
Two lush gorges embrace the area, perfect for shaded walks under tall plane trees.
There are natural springs, old stone bridges, and walking trails that start right from the village.
A short hike from the villa brings you to Nisi, a hauntingly beautiful abandoned Byzantine village. Once home to dozens of families, it now stands silent on a hilltop, with stone ruins, tiny chapels, and panoramic views that reward every step of the walk.
This is a neighborhood for travelers who don’t need a schedule.
Who enjoy waking up with the sun and deciding where their feet (or their curiosity) will take them.
And if you ever wondered what real Cretan village life feels like; this is it.
Getting around here is simple — whether you’re walking ancient paths or driving to the sea.
If you love exploring on foot, you’re in the right place.
From the villa you can step straight onto scenic hiking trails through Kollita Gorges, or follow old footpaths to chapels, stone wells, and even the ruins of Nisi, the nearby abandoned village. These are not tourist trails — they’re quiet, local, and full of small surprises.
For beach lovers, Episkopi Beach is about 15–20 minutes away by car. It’s a long stretch of golden sand with crystal waters, perfect for a full day by the sea with tavernas nearby for a proper lunch. Driving there is easy — the road winds through hills and olive groves, and there’s always free parking.
We recommend having a car if you’d like to explore more of the island, visit Rethymno town, or make beach trips often. But many of our guests choose to spend most of their time right here — walking, resting, reading, and reconnecting.
There’s no public transport in the village, but we’re always happy to help with directions, grocery delivery, or arranging a local taxi when needed.
Just let us know what kind of pace you’re after — and we’ll help you make it happen.
